Leake Auction Company just added a 2006 Ford GT to their Tulsa auction, June 10, 11 and 12 in the River Spirit Expo. The Ford GT is painted in the limited-edition Tungsten Grey. This rare color was originally developed by Ford for the 2005 Detroit Auto Show. The hue was created to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Ford’s first win at Le Mans. Due to the high demand for the color, Ford added the hue to their color palette in 2006. This GT features the Quick Silver racing stripe, lightweight magnesium BBS wheels and red calipers. This is one of 250 ever manufactured.
Many remember the GT as Ford’s attempt to beat Ferrari on the Le Mans race track. Ford was successful with its Mk1 GT40 winning four consecutive races from 1966 to 1969. During the 2002 Detroit Auto Show, Ford debuted the GT as a concept car. While the look of the car was very similar to the GT40, the size was modified to accommodate new safety and construction legislation. The restyle GT featured an aluminum frame and a 5.4L modular DOHC V8 with a twin screw blower strapped to it. With 550 HP, it topped 60 MPH in 3.5 seconds, a quarter mile in 11.2 seconds and a top speed of 205 MPH.
“There is a lot of excitement around the release of the new Ford GTs,” said Richard Sevenoaks, president of Leake Auction Company. “As a result, we have seen a surge in the marketplace for these cars. This GT is one of 250 manufactured and has very specific features on it. There will be high-level interest on this car.”
