Jim Hale’s Race Cars Added to Dallas Auction Line-Up

The cars will be sold at Leake’s Collector Car Auction

TULSA, Okla. (October 4, 2011) — Three race cars owned and raced by drag racer Jim Hale will be auctioned during Leake Auction Company’s car auction, November 18-20 in Dallas. Hale’s 1968 Factory Hemi Barracuda has been documented by Galen Govier as one of 55 built. In March of this year, Hale set a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) F class record of 10.91 seconds in his 1967 Barracuda 383. A 1964 Belvedere “Clone” will also be sold.

For the past 40 years, Jim Hale has been on the drag racing circuit.

The 1968 Factory Hemi Barracuda has competed in several Super Stock Hemi shootouts at NHRA Nationals, the Dutch Classic and the Sport Nationals. This car has an NHRA certified chassis, automatic racing transmission, race convertor, Precision Performance shifter, 9″ Ford rear end, Lamb brakes, Mark Williams axles, Weld racing wheels, Magna flow fuel pump and autometer gauges.

The 1967 Barracuda 373 features a stroker stock and is eligible to race in Class E, F and G. In 2006 Hale set the NHRA record of 11.07 seconds in G class with this car. The vehicle can easily be made ready for street driving with mufflers, a different radiator and street tires.

In addition to Jim Hale’s race cars, the auction will also feature the following notable race cars:

A 1961 Chevrolet Corvette RPO race car from the private collection of race car driver Wes Abendroth will be auctioned. The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) racers would opt for ‘RPO 687’, a heavy duty brake and steering package which included finned cast steel brake drums, semi-metallic brake linings, as well as a quicker steering ratio. Only 233 cars left the factory in 1961 with the RPO 687 option. This car retains all of its “big brake” components. The corvette also features the rare LPO 1625 option, which replaced the standard 16-gallon fuel tank with a 24-gallon unit, making it suitable for long-distance races.

A 1991 Chevrolet Lumina race car, driven by Ernie Irvan during his 1991 Daytona 500 win will be sold. This car is a historic member of the Daytona 500 winner’s circle. Known as ‘Willard’ in the racing community, the car has been completely restored and is in the same condition it was when it was raced. Race footage, restoration photos, model of car and various articles are included in purchase.

Jim Hale and Wes Abendroth will make a special appearance at the auction.

The annual Leake Collector Car Show & Auction will be held November 18-20 in Dallas Market Hall. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and military personnel with an ID and $7 for children under 12.For a complete list of vehicles consigned to this auction, visit www.leakecar.com.
