Options and Highlights

  • Built by the famous car builder Grant King, this racer is a copy of a Penske PC7 style of racer. Grant King produced over 250 custom race cars, and is an inductee of the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame. The Drake Offy engine in this car is from the line that was started in 1978 with only 12 being made. The development of this engine proved too much of a financial strain, and were the last engines made by Offenhauser. It is mounted with an Ishi Warner turbocharger that has a cockpit adjustable boost. The Hewland LG500 MK2 four speed transmission was widely used in racing at the time. AP Lockhead 4 piston brakes on all 4 wheels. This car raced in the Indy 500 in both 1979 and 1980, and was driven by Jim McElreath. It finished 35th and 24th respectively in those races, and was later driven by other well-known drivers including Gary Irvin, Jan Sneva, and John Mahler. This car was restored to its original 1980 specifications by AJ Watson, another well-known car builder.
