OKC’s largest collector car auction sets world record!
Oklahoma City, Okla. (March 26, 2008)
The Kruse-Leake Collector Automobile Auction, Oklahoma City’s largest auction of its kind, sold a 1959 Cadillac series 62 lipstick red convertible for a world record price of $216,000. The car sold at last month’s event, which drew thousands of collector car buyers, sellers and enthusiasts.
The Friday auction also had a sales percentage of 75 percent – an astounding number in the car auction industry. Other top selling cars were a 1963 Mercury Marauder S-55 at $160,000, a 1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty $80,500, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 at $73,000 and a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428 CJ at $65,500. Total sales were $4.2 million with total bids of $7.1 million.
“This was another record-breaking event for us,” said Richard Sevenoaks, president of Leake Auction Company. “We saw the highest attendance we’ve ever had on Saturday, and I truly believe it’s because we provide a product like no one else in the area. Coming to the Kruse-Leake Show is an experience – from top-notch collector cars to the two-lane auction block.”
Leake Auction Company was first established in Muskogee in 1964 by Jim Leake Sr. as one of the first car auctions in the country. More than 40 years later, three generations of Leakes have worked for the company. And with more than 30,000 cars sold, it is one of the top five car auction companies in the country. Leake Auction Company currently operates auctions in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston and will add San Antonio in the spring of 2009.
