LEAKE AUCTION
HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Press Releases
Kruse & Leake Present the Largest Collector Auto Auction in Texas

Dallas, TX (December 6, 2005) — The Kruse-Leake Dallas 2005 Collector Car Auction was the most successful Dallas show in the firm's history said Leake Auction Company president Richard Sevenoaks. “It is now the largest collector auto auction in Texas,” said Sevenoaks. “Our numbers for this year exceeded anything we have ever done in Dallas.”

The auction, which was held at Dallas Market Hall on November 18-20, saw 575 lots consigned for sale of which 286, or 50 percent, actually sold. The total take, with buyer’s premium, accounted for $7.07 million. Total bids were in excess of $15 million.

Sevenoaks continued “The success of the Dallas event mirrored successful auctions in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Everywhere the demand for classic automobiles has remained strong.”

Ford Motor Company provided some of the most sought-after cars of the auction. A 1969 Ford Mustang Boss Fastback brought in the highest sale of the auction at $205,000. A 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 two-door Hardtop was purchased for $160,000 and a 1932 Ford Model Show Car 6-wheel Roadster demanded $150,000. One of the most unusual models, a 2000 Ford Equator Concept Show Model, was purchased for $116,600, including buyer’s premium.

Shelby automobiles continued to hold their value: a 1967 Shelby GT500 two-door fetched $185,000 while a GT350 of the same year brought in $145,000. The six-figure mark was also crossed by a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette, which had a winning bid of $102,000.

As usual there were bargains to be found among the treasures. A 1979 Ford Thunderbird two-door coupe brought $900 and a 1981 Mercedes-Benz 369 SL Roadster was far below its showroom price at $3,800.

“An important thing to remember about our auto auctions,” said Sevenoaks, “we not only have deservedly high-priced autos but a number of fine entry level collector cars as well. We try fit all pocketbooks. We also offer a wide variety of makes and models. We want it to be fun for everyone.”
