Kruse & Leake Team Up to Present 32nd Annual Dallas Collector Car Show & Auction
Dallas, TX (December 6, 2004) — The 1971 Plymouth Barracuda ruled the weekend at the Dallas 2004 Kruse-Leake classic car auction held at Market Hall in Dallas Nov. 19-21. Two Barracudas were auctioned at over $100,000. A Hemi Cuda Clone sold for $112,500 while a “Nash Bridges” Barracuda closely followed at $107,000. They were two of 246 lots, most of them autos, which were sold over the three day auction. “Business was sizzling,” said Leake Auction Company president Richard Sevenoaks. Business was up 25 percent over last year. It was dazzling.”
The total take rose from just under $4 million in 2003 to $5,112,000 this year. Some 494 lots were offered for sale and 246, just a hair under 50 percent, found a new home. Other high-dollar items included a 1957 Ford “F” Thunderbird ($95,500), a 1968 Shelby GT 350 Convertible ($91,000), and a Bentley Arnage ($90,500). As happens every auction there was lots of action on the lower end of the scale. A 1968 Eldorado sold for $1,800 and a 1974 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL went for only $2,000. In all 65 cars sold for under $10,000.
“Once again the muscle cars of the ‘50s and ‘60s proved highly popular,” said Sevenoaks. “We couldn’t have been more pleased with the turnout and the result.”
The auction offered several cars of magnificent historical value. The 1912 Sears Model P sold for $19,100, and the 1913 International Harvester sold for $21,000. A 1930 Ford Model A went for $16,000 while its predecessor, the Model T (a 1914 model) barely made the $10,000 level. A 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was a mere shadow of its original asking price at $15,000. “Every year Dallas does us proud,” said Sevenoaks, “and we are looking to the future increased enthusiasm. Obviously a lot of people love these cars and we are proud to offer such a great selection.”
The next Kruse-Leake auction will be held in Oklahoma City Feb. 25-26, 2005. Patrons wishing to put autos up for auction should call Leake Auction Company at (800) 722-9942. For a complete sales results list from our Dallas Auction go to Sales Results on our website at www.leakecar.com.
